Subject: Discrepancies in Author's Narrative
Subject: Discrepancies in Author's Narrative
This book was published in 1873 which was 29 years after Asahel Adams died. The author must have interviewed Chauncey, Cyrus, or one of his grandchildren who were still residing in the town of Middlesex.
As people age, memories get hazy. Family folklore gets retold through the generations. At some point, these stories get embellished or altered in their retelling.
On Page 610, the author named Asahel's second wife, Polly, but not his first wife, Sarah. On Page 612, the author used the name Asahel instead of Chauncey.
That is why it is always wise to have corroborating records. That way the information in historical publications can either be confirmed or refuted.
